Saddle Bomb is the first longplayer by The Allophons – and it's about time, because the two sound nerds, C-Schulz and F.X.Randomiz have already proven through their many live sets over the last few years what the true soundtrack to creativity sounds like. Through and through the package sounds exceptionally organic. Out of pimped rhythmic 'cussions arises a subtle sound art, nailing pop and jazz down to a straight bass drum - and losing no pathos in the process. It's the stylistic expansiveness into unchartered coordinates that is most fascinating in the repertoire of the duo. Abstract soundscapes move sometimes in the direction of house music (Ein Shoobidoo), take in elements of rock (Stulle voll Glück), and even transform exotic particles into funk (NaNaNaau). However, it's in the realm of microsampling that their self-styled signature sound really unfolds. The duo reveal a unique aesthetic, reinventing song structures thanks to collaborations with studio guests such as Andi Toma (Mouse On Mars), Joseph Suchy and Natascha Nikeprelevic, each of whom contribute a bundle of voices rendering subtle loops and a strong bridge between experimental and club music. Saddle Bomb includes the 6 tracks of the Bow vinyl mini-LP (still available), new tracks and the Allophons' remixes of Dhirty6 Cru and Lithops. Nice digipak design by Frieda Luczak.
